WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?
Hypnosis is something that happens to you naturally every single day.
In fact, you may be in a form of environmental hypnosis right now! Hypnosis is a hyper-focused state that happens innately. When you miss your off-ramp on the way home from work or don't remember the entire drive home- that's a form of hypnosis.
Have you ever gotten emotional and cried, gotten scared or laughed hysterically during a movie? Also a form of hypnosis. Even the minutes right before falling asleep at night and the moments immediately after waking up are forms of hypnosis. In which your mind is in an altered state of consciousness that activates the dominance of your subconscious mind and it's automatic programming.
In this day and age most people are so overloaded with stress that they as essentially walking around like zombies in a state of environmental hypnosis unable to focus on what they truly desire for their lives.
We have all heard the saying, "People don't change." The reason? Your subconscious mind makes up about 88% of your total mind power and its goal is to keep you the same.
Think of your mind as a very complex computer, your subconscious mind is like the software system that runs the program; and the program is your behavior. This program may be outdated or it may be something you never chose or wanted.
The majority of our "programs" were developed at a very young age when we were extremely suggestible and before our conscious minds were fully developed. These programs became ingrained patterns of belief or "known associations" that were carried into our adult lives.
So now you want to change your subconscious programming but using your conscious mind to do so (which is only about 12% of your total mind power) hasn't been that easy, Right? That's because of homeostasis which is the the mind and body's innate desire to stay the same and to seek and maintain a condition of balance.
The subconscious mind will kick out any kind of suggestion for change from your conscious mind if that thought or idea doesn't match what is already known to be true.
That is were Hypnotherapy can help! When you are in a state of hypnosis your body is calm and relaxed, but your subconscious mind is hyper-focused and more accepting and open to change.
The Hypnotherapist gives suggestions to you while you are "in state" and those suggestions move down through the conscious mind, bypassing the critical area (which is the guard of the "knowns") and finally deep into the subconscious mind, where the desired changes will become integrated into your new software system.
